Grading Practices Status Report

At the June 5 School Board Meeting, the Board will receive a status report (view the report in Spanish and Simplified Chinese) from the Grading Practices Team on its work over the course of the 2024-25 school year. The charge of the team was to develop guidance for educators based on the belief that educators use their best professional judgement to assign grades that accurately communicate student learning. The work of the Grading Practices Team builds on previous district-wide work on grading over the past several years. This guidance is in the form of a draft Secondary Grading Practices Staff Handbook (view the handbook in Spanish and Simplified Chinese) and is intended to support educators by establishing best practices for grading based on the research and literature.

The Board will also convene in a study session which will provide an opportunity for deeper discussion of the four key practices described in the handbook and the plan for their implementation.

The Board will not be considering any revisions to Policy 2024 (Grading and Progress Reports) at this time.
